Since 2020, the Pegg family has been touring the community adding US Flags to local residents’ mailboxes and gates. They post their intentions on social media and ask who is interested in obtaining one, for free! “It all started, says Christina Pegg, a resident of The Acreage/Loxahatchee, when Covid hit. We were stuck at home and needed to get out. I went onto the Facebook group, The Acreage Speaks, and asked for addresses of anyone that would like a free U.S. flag on their mailbox.” They received many requests and the first year they placed 40 flags for those that responded. The second year, they placed 55 flags around our community. Then, the third year they did over 200 flags! This year, they’ve scaled back a bit and has, to date, placed around 140 flags on those that have requested them. They are still adding more but do not yet have a total count.
“Every year, my son Aidan Long and some of his friends like Nikolas Grala, Marco Maldonado, Zach & Daniel Ellis, and Isabella Basile, have helped from the beginning. My 4-year old son Dylan Pegg, hands the flags to the older friends since he is too little to reach the mailboxes. The patriotism in America is embarrassing. It’s our job as parents to install good values in our children, so that’s what I’m doing along with the kids that help.” says Christina.
“This year we had 3 additional families volunteer to help place flags, Christina commented, Jamie Grala, Tami Hennacy and Lisa Makus, who will be getting their young ones involved too.” This patriotism captured the attention of the local media, WPBF Channel 25 in 2023, and can be viewed here.

We asked if they have a way to receive donations to continue this, as items are becoming more expensive these days. She stated “We have received some generous donations from a couple families and really appreciate it. The United States Flag Store is the company I purchase the flags from. I’ve never reached out to ask for a discount.” If anyone would like to reach out to the ALA and discuss possibly setting up a donation page for the sole purpose of keeping this tradition going and expanding it to more residents, please contact us and we will be happy to connect you to the founder of the project.
The Acreage Landowners Association would like to thank the Pegg, Grala, Hennasy and Makus families for your service to our community and the smiles your flags bring to us all! We look forward to more community participation to help in your endeavors!
