OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS OUR SUPPORT
There is a POSSIBILITY that the proposed 24-hour Freestanding Emergency Room (FSED) may be postponed to April 23 to allow time for discussions with residents about alternative options.
This postponement will be voted on by the County Commissioners TOMORROW — nothing is final yet.
WHY THIS MATTERS
We chose to live in an UNINCORPORATED AREA
That means the County makes decisions for us
That is why the Acreage Landowners Association (ALA) exists —
To protect residents
To preserve our rural character
To ensure your voice is heard
THE PROJECT
This is a proposed 24-HOUR FREESTANDING EMERGENCY ROOM (FSED)
Located within 250 feet of homes
Some homes as close as ~100 feet
The applicant is requesting a Type 2 Waiver to operate 24 HOURS
By code, operations within 250’ of homes are limited to:
6:00 AM – 11:00 PM
OUR POSITION
The community is NOT opposed to medical services
But… this is NOT what this plaza was approved for
The original and current approval (2007 MUPD) clearly expected:
Limited nighttime activity
Lights out at 11:30 PM (except security)
The community wants to HOLD TO THAT APPROVAL
6 AM – 11 PM operations ONLY
NO overnight activity near homes
KEY FACTS
• FSEDs are intended for UNDERSERVED AREAS — this area is NOT underserved
• Nearby ERs already exist within a few miles
• Homes were here LONG BEFORE this proposal
• Residents are already experiencing sleep disturbance from nearby late-night activity
IMPORTANT
The applicant must prove:
NO ADVERSE IMPACT to nearby homes
If approved, this will:
SET A PRECEDENT for ALL unincorporated Palm Beach County
Allow other businesses to request late-night / 24-hour operations
TAKE ACTION (VERY IMPORTANT)
